Welcome to the HOPE Portal

What to Wear

You are here:

We ask all participants to respect the Indian dress culture, which is very different to Ireland.

HOPE t-shirts must be worn each day while visiting projects, and you can wear your own clothes in the evening in the hotel. Each evening your HOPE group leader will let you know the itinerary for the following day and any special clothing considerations (e.g. whether closed in shoes or flip flops are more appropriate).

Keep shoulders covered.

This means NO vests, off-the-shoulder tops, cut-off sleeves etc. Tops should come down over the tops of your arms e.g. regular t-shirts are fine. In any case you will be wearing your HOPE t-shirts during the day which are appropriate.

Keep knees covered.

Shorts that cover the knees, or longer, or long trousers are appropriate. Opt for loose-fitting and breezy cotton trousers. It will be too hot for leggings. No sports shorts.

Keep midriffs covered.

Indian saris often leave a woman’s stomach exposed. However, tourists are recommended not to wear western-style belly tops/cut-off tops, short tees etc.

Shoes

Flip flops, Crocs, sandals, and runners. You will be removing your shoes when visiting most projects.
